SATO MOUGHALIAN: Music Coordinator Bio

Sato Moughalian has distinguished herself as a New York contractor by assembling groups, both large and small, with a refined and highly flexible artistic sensibility. She collaborates with composers and conductors, and has been instrumental in the development of groups with a prominent artistic profile, including L’Opéra Français de New York, the Gotham Chamber Opera, and her own Perspectives Ensemble.

She works frequently with such dynamic music directors as Yves Abel, Angel Gil-Ordoñez, Neal Goren, Rob Kapilow, Roger Nierenberg, Francisco Nuñez, and George Steel at venues including Lincoln Center and Lincoln Center Festival, Carnegie Hall, the 92nd Street Y, Society for Ethical Culture, Miller Theatre, Merkin Concert Hall, Symphony Space, and Music on the Island. She has contracted for church and choral concert series including First Presbyterian Church, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, West Village Chorale, Barnard-Columbia Chorus, and the Brookhaven Choral Society. Record labels include Sony Classics, Newport Classics, New World Records, and Vivendi. Other series include the Transient Glory project of the Young People’s Chorus of New York, the Pocket Concerto Project of Miller Theatre, Iberartists, the JVC Jazz Festival, and Wall-to-Wall Stravinsky.  Ms. Moughalian works with a wide range of players characterized by both their finely-honed chamber music skills and their evident love of music.

Perspectives Ensemble is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit corporation. Under its umbrella, Artistic Director Sato Moughalian, and General Manager Antonio Tessitore also provide an array of services to the New York arts community.

Perspectives Ensemble:

“first-rate performances by accomplished musicians” The New York Times

“these works were given exquisite performances” The New York Times

“stunning” “One would think that this work, with its rhythmic suppleness and bright hues, needed the coordinating hand of a conductor. The 15-player Perspectives Ensemble worked without one, yet gave a performance that was remarkably polished, fastidiously balanced and full of electricity.” The New York Times

“ a superb recital by the Perspectives Ensemble” The New York Times

“rhythms were remarkably precise, supple and subtle” The New York Times

“The performances by the Perspectives Ensemble, an outstanding aggregation based in New York, are first-rate, with particularly fine playing by the flutist Sato Moughalian” The New York Times

Gotham Chamber Opera:

“15 fine instrumentalists make the most of Britten's witty, incisive and brilliant orchestration” The New York Times

L’Opéra Français de New York:

“the orchestra played Offenbach's score with bright-hued ebullience and also a fluidity of tempos that gave the impression that both the music and the drama had room to breathe.” The New York Times

“New York Symphonic Arts Orchestra was lithe and crisp, yet attentive to the nuances and richness of the music.” The New York Times

“spirited and colorful playing” The New York Times

“Mr. Abel elicited a beautifully detailed reading from his musicians. The crisply accented string lines, the shapely wind playing and the uninhibited percussive trimmings were among the evening's greatest pleasures” The New York Times

“A happy element of Friday's performance was the excellent small orchestra” The New York Times

"Orchestra contractor Sato Moughalian puts together an orchestra that can outplay established ensembles in terms of style and finesse." Opera News
